Saturn's Shoulder - Fractalized

This is an adaptation of a photo taken by the NASA/JPL Cassini spacecraft, now in orbit around Saturn. I used the Fractal filter from GIMP 2 to twiddle it. This is my way of saluting a project that has so vastly expanded our knowledge of the Saturn system and provided many breathtaking images. #CassiniInspires

This is really cool, Larry! How long did this take you? What is the original object?
Larry Bliss: Hi Elizabeth... the lower left hand corner is the closest reflection of Saturn and its rings. Envision a basketball and a hoop. The manipulation was a matter of me trying out things from the filter menu--took only a few minutes. Yes, I are an artist. smile
Brilliant, Larry, well done.
Larry Bliss: Credit goes to the planet Saturn...

Well conceived, Larry
Larry Bliss: thank you Lisl...
Great effect Larry. I haven't used GIMP in a long time!
Larry Bliss: I like GIMP for the price... smile

Fabulous picture and fabulous links. This is fascinating. I know not the same, but first I read the book, the Martian and after that I saw the movie... I 'eat' things like that.
Larry Bliss: The Martian was a very good movie... I love learning more about space travel and astronomy...

Very dramatic! Nice play of shadows!
Larry Bliss: It was fun to do... Saturn is incredible...
Neat twiddle, Larry!
Larry Bliss: thanks, Tom...
this is a magnificent twiddle Larry... perfect in b&w... Anne from the UK creates many designs like this from ordinary objects...
i followed your link... spectacular images from the NASA/JPL Cassini spacecraft....petersmile
Larry Bliss: thanks, Peter... I am glad you followed the link. All of those images are in the public domain--all they ask is a credit line for JPL-NASA...
Well, happy return to the new, Larry. I like space and NASA.
Larry Bliss: glad you like it... I am a space geek as I told Astrid...

Wonderful version of this. Nature does make the best art.
Larry Bliss: Yes indeed...
It totally blows the imagination, Larry.

I can see Saturn in a lot of the fractals. Perfect result, deserving a likey.
Larry Bliss: Thank you so much, Louis...
i think it makes for a great image what you did here, Larry and i had to read your text before realizing what i was looking at.

That's great! Thanks for the link. We went to NASA Space Center Houston this summer so have a bit of interest in things relating to space/NASA lately. Even though I live in Houston, it was only my second time there (first time was more than 15 years ago, and i have to say it is much better now than then).
