Hmmmmmmm....
Did you see about the monuments in New Orleans? Strange days.
Larry Bliss: I just read about the monuments in New Orleans. It's not so strange to me--nations have gone to war over less.

Indeed and Elizabeth made me google about New Orleans.

When we stay with friends in Georgia a confederate flag (a big one) is seen in one of the yards up the street.
Larry Bliss: Thanks for the link. I would not have known about it otherwise. I am appalled by the need for police protection against death threats. It makes me doubt that racism will ever die.

Tell me about it Larry, here in Yurp we're surrounded by it..
Larry Bliss: Scoundrels hiding behind flags is a universal blight.
I am not a great fan of flag flying. The English flag has been hijacked by some very unsavoury organisations.
Larry Bliss: Same here. Baptist homophobes, for one, are especially fond of it. I flew the Stars and Stripes for some time after 9/11 as a gesture of solidarity... then W decided to instigate wars in America's name, and down it went.

Some places are left free of politics; this is one of them.
Larry Bliss: I hope you are right. I hope the flag here is meant only as a tribute to a loved one.
Does the Confederate flag now stand for defiance?
Larry Bliss: Depends on who you ask. For me, it is a symbol of slave-owning, and so I find it offensive. To others, it is a way to honor their ancestors who died in the Civil War. I think that many regard the Stars and Bars as a protest against a demographic transition to a white-minority society.

Trumpie von Orangehair, probably has set some emotions free ... Looking at what is happening here with our prez doing his best to annex the country, one sees again that the forgotten voices rise. Something like what my science teacher taught us "For every action there will be an equal reaction." Energy energises inertia.
Larry Bliss: Bigots are much more honest expressing their bigotry since Trump started his campaign of ignorance. What we have in America now is a "counter-revolution" to the "revolution" of 2008. I am oversimplfiying, but I think you'll get my point. Our myopic media no longer covers South Africa--what is happening there?
i agree Larry... it's hard to get away from politics these days....petersmile
Larry Bliss: Well, sometimes I like politics.

Politics will always be everywhere unfortunately.
Larry Bliss: Politics is part of being human...
Fighting old, lost battles.
Larry Bliss: I think the South won the war--over the long haul. You never hear of people moving up North to retire, and the South's economy has grown more than the North's.
