I like old signs on old shops!
Larry Bliss: they have a sense of character, don't they?

RALEIGH -- From 1911 to the 1960s, the Boylan-Pearce Building on Fayetteville Street was a symbol of fashion and good taste for Raleigh and eastern North Carolina.

With its Beaux Arts design -- intricate plaster moldings on the exterior and sweeping staircase that connected three stories on the interior -- the Boylan-Pearce Building attracted many visitors.

But after the popular department store left the building for the suburbs of Cameron Village in the 1960s, the structure fell into disrepair. Its magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows on the second and third levels were filled with cinder blocks and its terra-cotta medallions on the exterior were hammered away. A discount clothing store took over the building's first floor, but didn't stay.

For about eight years now, the building has been boarded and empty.

But the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, a Raleigh nonprofit organization, is changing that.

Aint the internet wonderful Larry..
Larry Bliss: Thanks for the research Chris. My brother worked in the Cameron Village location for several years. The Fletcher foundation is well respected and ought to be able to do something worthwhile with the building.
Well Chris has put a stop to any speculation about this rather attractive facade
Larry Bliss: Now now we must all have our fun... smile
i am intrigued by how those buildings seem to be seamlessly joined to one another, Larry
Larry Bliss: It saved them from building windows Ayush...
