A beautiful sight Larry - growing straight out of the trunk too!
Larry Bliss: Beautiful indeed...
This tree is amazing, Larry - Cercis siliquastrum; There is a long-standing myth that Judas Iscariot hanged himself from a tree of this species. This belief is related to the common name "Judas Tree" which is possibly a corrupted derivation from the French common name, Arbre de Judée meaning tree of Judea, referring to the hilly regions of that country where the tree used to be common. Another possible source for the vernacular name is the fact that the flowers and seedpods can dangle direct from the trunk in a way reminiscent of Judas' suicide
Larry Bliss: Quite a history... thank you!
Isn't this a beautiful sight! I think this is why there are tree huggers.
Larry Bliss: Someone hugging this one could crush the flowers...
Wow Larry... great shot... this is some special tree!... i have never seen one... i also appreciate the description that Juan Carlos gave us about it....petersmile
Larry Bliss: It's a very special tree, right next door!
Always welcome. Beautiful color!
Larry Bliss: A little color is indeed always welcome...

It was interesting to read Juan's explanation. Never seen a tree where the flowers pop out of the trunk.
Larry Bliss: This is the only one I know of...

That's lovely - I don't think I've ever seen flowers growing directly out of a tree trunk
Larry Bliss: It's a new one on me too.

It looks as if the tree is decorated with the blossoms - I didn't realise they actually grew out of the trunk, Larry
Larry Bliss: It's a new one on me, too.

It looks weird to see this Larry, but I know it happens.
Larry Bliss: Mother Nature has an odd sense of humor sometimes...
I've never seen this before. I wonder if we get them here.
Larry Bliss: They are a first for me too...
