Old Technology #1

The next few shots were taken inside and outside the D. H. Hill Library at N. C. State University. Employees use these portable shelves to carry books to their proper location in the stacks. (Meanwhile, another library on campus uses robotic bins to transport books.)

I like these old things... robots don't sound like fun to me...
Larry Bliss: They are sturdily constructed.

Larry Bliss: Good solid wood...
I hope they don't throw those away Larr, I love the design.

These work as well as the robots... imagine no electricity or a Trojan Horse in the system, like we had in our company....150 computers down sad.....
Larry Bliss: They work just fine--no electricity needed, just willing human workers...
My daughters have done their fair share of trolley pushing and shelving in their time as they both work for Worcester University
Larry Bliss: It beats tending bar... smile

I can remember doing this, Larry
Larry Bliss: I pushed a few myself. Good exercise!
this is somewhat sad to see them empty though, Larry.
Larry Bliss: Empty is good in this case. It means more books are on their assigned shelves for the public to see...
can't beat a good trolley.... I have one at hoe that's used a lot. Old age and all smile
Larry Bliss: A good one is a thing to cherish...
i like the old tech Larry... when you could feel the weight of the books you were carrying....petersmile
Larry Bliss: They don't call them weighty tomes for nothing...
