The North Carolina State Legislative Building, which opened in 1963, and was the first facility in the nation devoted to that purpose. Designed by Edward Durrell Stone, who also designed the Kennedy Center. It houses the General Assembly, which is dominated by rapacious Republicans (as if there were another kind).
UPDATE: The Repubs just lost their veto-proof majority in the lower house. This means our Democratic governor actually has power.
Below are two details from the south portico. The building is built on fours: four sides, four skylights, four rooftop gardens, four interior courts.
For the next two days I will present some interiors of this architectural gem.
