Metal Folk Artwork

Purchased from the local Gallery C and created by Mary Proctor, a black woman in her 60s who lives in Florida. The title is Train Up a Child, from Proverbs 22:6. The gallery owner tells me that one day Mary was looking in an old oil drum in her back yard. When she saw her face reflected in a pool of water, Mary said the Lord told her to start painting.

I think the Lord had a good idea, considering all the smart advice Mary painted.

Below, a detail of the three-dimensional child's toy:

An interesting post, Larry.

"Choose Good Friends" has caused me to think a bit.

I suppose it could be a combination of a couple of sound thoughts...perhaps...

#1 Have Friends.
#2 Associate with People who treat you the way you treat them.
Larry Bliss: I like it, Ray. Good words.

This is good solid stuff Larry
Larry Bliss: I am fortunate to have found such a lovely piece for such a small price. It was hanging in the bathroom of the gallery. I like to think that artworks like a good view, and it deserved a better vista than people sitting on the commode. smile
It is a fine sentiment Larry
Larry Bliss: Words to live by.

Well it’s quite different from what I have seen before.
Larry Bliss: I have the "one of each" philosophy of art's genres.
Perhaps no to drugs and the work below it should have been stacked in reverse. I like this naive piece.
Larry Bliss: smile Maybe
It would be interesting to know what her inspiration for this piece was, Larry. Will you be showing any more of her work?
Larry Bliss: I only bought this one. I imagine she was inspired by the Bible verse.
What a great post, Larry! Thank you!
Larry Bliss: You are of course welcome...
